Rock climbing for SSS
Thanks to everyone who stops by each week, and especially for your comments!
Here's another scene from Rock Bottom, my contemporary from Lyrical Press. It will be the last peek at Rock Bottom for SSS.
Reporter Billie Prescott lets rocker Jet Trently talk her into rock climbing - an exercise in trust, he says. She's not so sure, especially when she loses her hold, though he tells her she's doing great:
It didn’t feel that way. Swinging from shadow into sunlight, she dangled like a spider with vertigo, but somehow, it was fine. Jet wouldn’t let her fall. Oh yeah, she was supposed to yell that. “Falling,” she sing-songed, but not in the way others meant it. No, she was falling in a much more dangerous way.

ROFL "she dangled like a spider with vertigo,"
great image.
great imagery and the 'fall'
I think I know what way she's falling. *grin* Great six as always, Cate!
I bet she is! The "spider with vertigo" phrase is gorgeous. Great six!
"Spider with vertigo"--love it! Great job.
Yikes...dangerous six! LOVE IT
Dangled like a spider with vertigo, a love this line. Great six. Thank you.
Ha! Cute!
What a feeling, dangling above the earth. Great six! Thank you for sharing!
Great six and I like a rocker that takes her rock climbing! :)
Great imagery!
Great scene! Love the trust we see here!
Nice descriptions. Love the metaphor.
Nice descriptions. Love the metaphor.
Terrific imagery and love how you gave 'falling' that wonderful double meaning. Nice!
Really great imagery. That spider line is excellent!
Great six. Sounds like she wants to be 'on belay' with someone
Great imagery and love the play on words. Great six!
Be careful, girl! Hearts break easily.
What a great scene.
I like the play on "falling" and the dangling like a spider with vertigo.
Great six!
Interesting six
Love the imagery...but then you never fail to present a great six--or novel in fact.
Great imagery - and, as I don't like heights, I really felt the vertigo (like the spider!)
Billie's a brave girl, going rock climbing. If Jet can talk her into that I'm betting her can talk her into other stuff too. Great six!
Every word you wrote contributed to the scene. I must say this is one of the best six I have ever read! Kudos!
I love the imagery here. good work.
Aww, so neat. Love it.
Adrenalin is an aphrodisiac, or so we're told. The intensely visual image (shadow and sunlight) and then the spider with vertigo goes from outside (what she looks like) to inside (what she feels).
I think I know what she's falling for, too. Great six! I can just hear her say "Falling" in her sing song voice. Awesome job!
Love how you layer the two types of fall in here. Great job!
Love the double inuendo in her thoughts and actions! WTG!
Yeah, that kind of falling can't really be helped. :)
