Taryn Kincaid brings shifters, Sleepy Hollow magic and sexy heroes!

Cate: Woot! Taryn Kincaid's returned for the Halloween celebration. Taryn, please tell us a little bit about yourself.
Taryn: I read and write everything. Well, not that I’ve written everything there is or ever was, but sometimes I mix up genres. I seem to be most comfortable with paranormals, if you go by my SLEEPY HOLLOW series of 1Night Stand books for Decadent Publishing, or my Black Hills Wolves shifter romances (one out, one on its way and one in progress!), but my first contract was for a Regency Romance, HEALING HEARTS, from Carina Press. And I’ve taken a dip into the contemporary romance pool, too, which has produced some of my best writing.

Cate: What do you love most about Halloween?
Taryn: Sheesh, what’s not to like? Candy, kids, apples, pumpkins and spices, bursts of amazing color when you leaf-peep, and the fabulous snack and party ideas on Pinterest. I can’t believe some of the stuff people dream up!

Cate: Exactly! lol Do you have a favorite memory of a Halloween past?
Taryn: Trying to get home from school before anyone else, get costumed, made up, out the door and over to the neighbors’ before Mrs. Mac gave out all her candy apples! (She only made them for the neighbor kids she knew.) I guess no one really does that anymore.

Cate: Sadly, not that I know of. We don’t even get trick or treaters where I live! I miss them.
Have you ever had an unusual experience you couldn’t explain?
Taryn: Yes, but I can’t talk about them!

Cate: Uh oh! Now I’m imagining the worst, lol. What frightens you the most?
Taryn: Donald Trump.

Cate: Yikes, YES! Can’t even joke about that. Ever gone on a ghost tour? Or ghost hunting on your own?
Taryn: Went on a ghost tour in New Orleans, maybe the best city in the world for that. It’s got such a reputation for ghosts that you can see realtor signs hanging on apartments to let that say, “Haunted / Not haunted” and things like that!

Cate: I so want to go there. Any favorite Halloween recipes you’d care to share?
Taryn: Have a bunch of them up on my “Happy Halloween” Pinterest board: https://www.pinterest.com/tarynkincaid/happy-halloween/

Cate: Yum! Ok, now for the real goodies! Tell us about your latest release, and where readers can find it online.
Taryn: I’ve got  HER CAPTAIN coming in December from Fated Desires Publishing’s Tempting Signs series, but it’s available for pre-order now! The hero, Slate Claybourne, is a sexy, taciturn—and somewhat damaged--ex-Navy SEAL, who returns to his hometown. He’s a Capricorn and would keep to himself if he could. But the heroine, Holly Harper, a bouncy and impetuous Aries, has other ideas!

Cate: Care to share a blurb or excerpt?
Taryn: Would love to!
12 Authors. 12 Zodiac Signs. 1 Explosive Series. What seductive, contemporary
 romance will you find today?

Capricorn Slate Claybourne, an ex-Navy SEAL and former sniper who has seen and done things in country that no man should endure, returns to his bucolic hometown on Pieberry  Island, desperate for the mundane, everyday routines he once wanted to escape.

A broken soul-dead man unable to be around people, his body still a lethal weapon when his night terrors wake him from sleep, Slate’s failed to keep the promise he made to the commander who died in his arms: to look after the older man’s baby girl.

But animated Aries Holly Harper is not the pigtailed tot Slate expected her to be, when she lands on the island to take over the decrepit Pieberry House, determined to turn it into an inn for summer tourists, and even more determined to yank Slate back into the land of the living.

First she crashes into him at the island’s holiday Winter Festival, dumping a towering stack of pies at his feet, then she drags him off to a fortune teller against his better judgment. Except for the sizzling attraction smoldering between them, they’re incompatible in every way.

But when a furious December nor’easter traps them together at Pieberry House, will Slate and Holly overcome their pasts and discover they are two halves of a whole?

Cate: Sounds great! What inspired you to write about the theme?
Taryn: Each sign of the series has been written by a different author. So when I was asked if I wanted to do one, I chose Capricorn, which is my own sign. I knew I wanted the hero to be some sort of sea captain…my original inspiration was Billy Joel’s Downeaster Alexa (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVlDSzbrH5M)…and I knew there was going to be a big Sandy-type storm…but that’s about it. I toyed with the title, Captain January, like the Shirley Temple movie because I thought the book would release in January. (It’s a December 15, 2015 release). As it turns out, it’s nothing like Captain January, and nothing like the Downeaster Alexa! About the only thing that remains is the storm! I love it.

Cate: Very cool! Anything else you’d like to share?
Taryn: Yep! My next Black Hills Wolves shifter book, ANOTHER CHANCE, is coming soon. (I don’t know the date yet, or I’d share.) But here’s the gorgeous cover:

Cate: Oo, you’re in for a treat, readers. Taryn has a giveaway for you!
Taryn: What’s your sign? Do you believe in astrology? Tell me that, or relate one of your favorite storm anecdotes and I’ll send a random commenter a copy of my first Black Hills Wolves shifter book, WOLF’S SONG.

Cate: The perfect Halloween treat! Thanks for joining the party, Taryn!

Taryn Kincaid will bring you In From the Cold for Halloween!

Cate: Please welcome Taryn Kincaid to my special Halloween celebration. Taryn, please tell us a little bit about yourself.
Taryn: I’m creepy and I’m kooky, mysterious and spooky. I’m altogether ooky. Oh. Wait. That’s the Addams Family. I may or may not be a scream, though. And my house may or may not be a museum. Actually, I may or may not be hoarder. Currently, I have many, many six-packs and bottles of Gatorade, in colors that do not precisely occur in nature, arrayed on my dining room table. Do not ask me why. I really can’t stand Gatorade.

Cate: lol Maybe the colors are festive? What do you love most about Halloween?
Taryn: It is crisp. Sometimes the Yankees play in the world series. Apples are particularly great. You do not have to buy pumpkin puree in cans. And there’s crap tons of candy wherever you look. Also Christmas decorations. But we may be getting ahead of ourselves.

Cate: Earlier every year! Do you have a favorite memory of a Halloween past?
Taryn: Here is me as a hobo with strategically-placed five o’clock shadow. And here is me and one of my brothers as Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy. My mom apparently liked the scruffy look, back in the day, when she did not work outside the home and needed a creative outlet aside from making curler bags out of empty Clorox bottles and papier mache bangle bracelets. We went to a store to get our picture taken as Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Ann and won a TV!

Cate: Worth dressing scruffy for the day! You guys don't look very happy, though :(
Have you ever had an unusual experience you couldn’t explain?
Taryn: I had a very spooky dream premonition once. It involved relatives, and floating to the ceiling of the elevator. The floater banged his head on the roof of the elevator. And the next day passed away. (From advanced age, though, not from an elevator mishap.) It was totally freaky-deaky, though.

Cate: *shivers* What frightens you the most?
Taryn: Aside from a bad review, you mean?

Cate: Ha, I hear you. Ever gone on a ghost tour? Or ghost hunting on your own?
Taryn: Last spring I went to my top bucket city, New Orleans, for the first (but definitely not the last!) time, for the Romantic Times convention. One night a group of us went on one of the many ghost tours. Ghosts are actually a selling point in NOLA real estate. As you  walk through the French Quarter, there are tons of apartment-for-rent signs that say “Haunted” or “Not Haunted.” Not too many other places I can think of where they’d have to tell you that! Well, maybe Sleepy Hollow!

Cate: Someday I need to go to N'awlins. Any favorite Halloween recipes you’d care to share?
Taryn: Here’s a link to my Pinterest Happy Halloween board. Tons of recipes (and pictures there). Will definitely be trying out those spider peanut cookies with Lindt truffle heads and googly eyes one day soon!

Cate: Tell us about your latest release, and where readers can find it online.
Taryn: It’s IN FROM THE COLD, and it’s the story of a demon spy named Spook, and a demon-hunting will o’the wisp. Spook doesn’t know he’s a demon or that he’s got demon relatives in Sleepy Hollow! They are combustible together, even before Madame Eve fixes them up for a 1Night Stand. And the morning after brings them down into the bowels of Demon Central, where they learn a thing or two about their pasts.
It’s 99 cents on Amazon.  It’s also available at the Decadent Publishing site, All Romance, Barnes & Noble, and every place else you’d expect! (Psst: And also?  It’s part of the Box of 1Night Stands anthology of 21 1Night Stands by some super awesome bestselling authors, like Jennifer Probst. Which is also 99 cents! So you do the math!)

Cate: Sounds cool! I love your Spooky Hollow stories. Care to share a blurb or excerpt?
Taryn:
Spook Raines is a burnt-out spy who doesn’t know he’s a fire demon with a twin in Sleepy Hollow.
Geneviève Mortimer is a will o' the wisp who hunts demons to ease the pain of her troubled past.
When Madame Eve brings them together for a torrid 1Night Stand, will they be able to come in from the cold at last?

Cate: What inspired you to write about the theme?
Taryn: Love Sleepy Hollow and love writing 1Night Stand stories for Decadent Publishing. I was actually doing a Decadent blog featuring the characters from HEAT WAVE…it was actually a sort of where are they now for the characters in that story, and what do you know, Bhyrne Raines gets an email from his cousin, Max Raines…and realizes he may have a long-lost twin brother!  I actually incorporated that blog post into a chapter in IN FROM THE COLD!

Cate: Anything else you’d like to share?
Taryn: Yeppers! Look for my wolfie paranormal romance, WOLF’S SONG in early 2015, when Decadent Publishing’s brand new Black Hills Wolves shift line debuts. And IF YOU CAN’T STAND THE HEAT, a contemporary foodie romance releasing on February 24, 2015, as part of Fated Desires Publishing’s special “Give Me a Taste” line.

Cate: You guys are in for a treat! Taryn has a giveaway. :)
Taryn: Will send a random commenter the ebook of your choice from my back list! (Or some random swag.) But you have to leave a comment!

Cate: And be sure to leave your email address, guys. Thanks for partying with us, Taryn!

News for your Monday

I hope you had a fantastic weekend! Nothing like good news to brighten a stormy Monday, so I'm sharing some. :)

Congrats to Arlene Webb on the release of her contemporary sweet humorous romance, In Lieu of Flowers! If you're not familiar with Arlene's fantastic work, I highly recommend it. This story's a lot of fun.

Family calls for help and I run to the rescue like I always do, to work cheerfully and politely, for as long as it takes.
And I wind up in a jam.
Mocked by flowers and non-existent fiends, I do what comes natural, perfectly normal for a guy who doesn't want to hang in a retail shop or funeral home—I freak out and hide.
Then—she—joins me in my dark and cramped isolation, and I do something that goes beyond natural, surpasses supernatural and becomes, for me, a cosmic phenomenon. Struck not by lightning, but lust. A once in a blue moon, great-balls-on-fire infatuation.
To get to the point—without knowing who the girl is, what she looks like, or anything about her—I fall for her.

My name is Joel. This romance is the story of my death and my life. Trust me, after you read you'll understand.

Amazon Kindle

If you have a hankering to visit Sleepy Hollow, Taryn Kincaid's got an ebook or five to take you there! She's celebrating the release of her latest, In From the Cold, with a 99 cent sale on the previous books. A great time to catch up on this fun paranormal series!

As for me, I'm  visiting Avid Readers Haven. Hope you'll pop over and say hi.

I'm also still begging for votes for the cover of A Wedding at the Blue Moon Cafe. Mina Carter did such a fantastic job on the cover art. I hope you'll give it a vote of appreciation at Lolly Tova's Cover Love. Hurry! The contest ends April 30.

Now it's off to work - more edits await. Have a great Monday!
